Partnership delivers success for large-scale transpooling project

01 OCTOBER 2024

Motive Technicians worked together with HCS in Fife, carrying out transpooling of product from 105 reels onto storage reels for the end client.

For the uninitiated, getting product from Reel A onto Reel B may seem a simple process, but in this case a high level of engineering input was required from the outset to ensure a safe and efficient solution was in place. Consideration around output torques was especially important for handling the high-end steel to avoid any stresses on the product.

Motive supplied a full transpooling package including 75Te Spooling Winches, 5Te Tensioner, Levelwind, and a 5Te Hydraulic Drum Winch, accompanied by a team of 6 multi-disciplined Personnel.

This transpooling project was a huge success thanks to having an experienced team of Technicians, and the partnership we built with HCS. We developed a great working relationship throughout the course of the job, handling 750 thousand metres of product ranging from 2” down to 12mm, with zero incidents. The commitment and professionalism of everyone involved in such an extensive undertaking made the whole process a safe, efficient and enjoyable experience.

Stevie Hepburn, Lead Equipment Operator (Nights) @ Motive added:

This was a considerable project, with multiple steps required for each reel transpool and packaging. It was a lot to get to grips with initially but was a brilliant job to work on. The Motive and HCS teams really came together, setting a solid plan in action and we had things down to a tee.
