Motive unveils landmark Engineering project

Introducing our latest venture, Motive recently completed one of its most significant Engineering builds to date.
The package comprises eight 80Te WLL Hydraulic Smart Winches, each with a 152kW Electric Hydraulic Power Unit, and complete with a custom Smart Winch Control System.
Delivered in tandem with several other large-scale projects underway at the Motive Base in Boyndie, our team of expert engineers, designers, and project managers worked tirelessly to ensure the build completed on time, with every detail perfected.
The new winches include the following features:
Winch Control System - monitoring and recording functions via a single PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) control system, accessible remotely for data collection or troubleshooting. The control room is fitted with a control panel, large remote screen and CCTV, and provides a protective and comfortable environment for Operators.
Render Mode - Automatic wire pay-in/pay-out according to the maximum render mode setting. If the set maximum load is achieved, the winch will automatically pay-out (render) to prevent any additional load on the rope. When the load drops below the acceptable maximum load, the winch will stop and hold the load on the counterbalance (hydraulic lock). The PLC Control System will then automatically pay-in the slack rope, retaining original positioning.
Smart Winch Technology - the winches are equipped with technology enabling the automation and the collection of valuable data analytics. Load sensing capabilities include drum rotations, layer and wrap counts, and wire remaining on the reel, helping achieve more efficient operations and delivering significant cost savings with less equipment requirements.
Testament to the Teams' commitment to excellence and ability to deliver on a grand scale, this comprehensive winch package will soon make its first deployment to an Offshore Wind Project.

We are proud to have led the build and commissioning of Motive's largest project to date. It's always a great moment to be able to showcase the successful project completion.
The entire team worked extremely hard throughout, while balancing multiple other projects. Our project and delivery teams collaborated seamlessly with regular meeting and action planning ensuring everything stayed on track. It has been especially rewarding to see our Apprentices and newer employees benefit from the valuable insight gained through working on such a highly technical and milestone-driven project.
